Recently, I have had unexplained peripheral oedema, in my feet, ankles and abdomen. It can get really sore, particularly, in my feet. When in my abdomen I can look 5/6 months pregnant for 5 days or more (not the look I’m going for, especially when I’m promoting myself as a health coach and fitness professional!) So after a series of invasive and no invasive investigations (I won’t go into details but I’m sure you can imagine they weren’t pleasant), I’ve been told there is no medical explanation for my Idiopathic Oedema! Right…..
My doctor then tells me, that I’m actually one of his healthiest patients. Right…..
‘So’ he says, ‘you can do one of two things Onika… worry about what it could be even though there are no medical explanations for your symptoms or you can turn this into a positive, and I know you positivity is the substance to your being’.
At this point I’m like okay, you know me way too much. He goes on, ‘continue with your health and fitness regimes, positive and healthy living and learn to accept and manage your condition… oh and cut salt out of your diet completely (#waterretention), eat more fruits and veg and increase your potassium’.
I’m like cool, actually, he’s right, I’ve got this! I head to the market and look at the choices available. There’s so many health foods available and at good prices.
Typically my diet is low in salt, sugar free, dairy free and low fat. But actually, I guess I could do with increasing my fruit and veg intake and at these prices there’s no excuse!
I hope I start to see some results soon, I’ll keep you posted!
Love Nika. x
